On a Whim- Weave Design Project

This project was completed for a textile design course and marketed for home furnishings. The inspiration came from a quote by Dorothy Draper reading

“There seems to be within all of us an innate yearning to be lifted up momentarily out of our own lives into the realm of charm and make believe”

From this quote I gathered a sense of whimsicality along with a natural color palette. I wanted to achieve depth with a two dimensional image using only one motif and layering it- I took inspiration from typography maps for this method. The designs were created using Adobe Photoshop and Lectra Kaledo software. The samples were woven using a 54″ Dornier Rigid Rapier Loom. Once my designs were finalized I simulated them using EAT DesignScope Victor software.

One of my fabric samples was featured in a student magazine called Windhover for the 2016-2017 school year.
